As Todd states in the post, the scenerios he discusses may not happened but very well could. And I agree.
The direct market will always be there but will change due to different forces such as the explosion of both web and digital comics along with the issues most people and businesses are facing as a result of the economy. These two alone will result in a direct market which will be different even a year from now.
Everyone involved in comics- regardless if they are a creator, retailer, or publisher- need to begin taking action now in order to plan for the unpredictable future awaiting the industry. Creators should be asking themselves if they want to focus on working for the major publishers or begin laying the groundwork for their own web and digital comics. Publishers should look into how they can incorporate digital and web comics into their business model in order to grow and tap into a new audience. And the poor retailers have to not only figure out how they can weather this economic storm on top of the growing popularity of digital and web comics.
There are no easy answers but a good starting point is talking about things. So what do you think? What is your take on Todd's post? In the immortal words of Aragon: What say you!?!?
